Down and out rock star Dewey Finn (Jack Black) gets fired from his band, and he faces a mountain of debts and depression. He takes a job as a 4th grade substitute teacher at an uptight private school where his attitude and hijinx have a powerful effect on his students. He also meets Zack, a 10-year-old guitar prodigy, who could help Dewey win a “battle of the bands” competition, which would solve his financial problems and put him back in the spotlight.

Filmmaker/narrator Bruce Brown follows two surfers, Mike Hynson and Robert August, on a surfing trip around the world. Despite the balmy climate of their native California, cold ocean currents make local beaches inhospitable during the winter. They, with Rodney Sumpter and Nat Young, travel to the coasts of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Tahiti and Hawaii in a quest for new surf spots and introduce locals to the sport. Other important surfers of the time, such as Miki Dora, Phil Edwards and Butch Van Artsdalen, also appear.
Both Soldier Ride and Welcome to Soldier Ride the Film began in 2004 when Chris Carney, a bartender at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, NY, decided to ride his bike for charity. With the support of Talkhouse owner Peter Honerkemp and Talkhouse promoter Nick Kraus, Chris completed a 4,000 mile coast-to-coast bicycle ride raising over $1 million in support of The Wounded Warrior Project, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help injured service members aid and assist one another. In 2005 Chris was joined by two soldiers who were injured serving in Iraq: Staff Sergeant Heath Calhoun – a double leg amputee, and Staff Sergeant Ryan Kelly – a single leg amputee – to ride again, raising community awareness, and meeting fellow veterans along the way. This is their story.
